Find out community’s problems, MIC Youth told

KUALA LUMPUR: MIC Youth leaders must go to the ground to find out the community's problems if the party is to regain ground lost in the March general election.
Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department S.K. Devamany, in making the call, said many Youth leaders did not perform.
“If this culture continues, we will not be able to gain the trust of the Indian community. Only those who are committed should take up posts in the Youth wing. We don’t need seat warmers,” he said after a two-day brainstorming session for 50 MIC state youth leaders on Sunday.
Devamany, who is Cameron Highlands MP, also briefed the leaders on the current political situation in the country as well as the Government’s efforts to assist the community.
National MIC Youth coordinator T. Mohan admitted there were weaknesses in the wing.
“I admit there are some Youth leaders who have not performed in their states for more than six years but goals have been set for the new state leaders,” he said.
Mohan, who was appointed last month, said leaders who failed to perform effectively would be replaced in the Youth polls scheduled next May.
“I have given them guidelines to carry out in implementing the programmes in their states. If they adhere to them, there is no reason for them not to succeed,” he said.
Mohan, who also urged the leaders in the division and state to be vocal on issues affecting the community, promised to give RM1,000 monthly allocations to the states to carry out their activities.
He said leaders must not be satisfied in getting their activities highlighted in the Tamil newspapers but should also strive to get publicity in English and Malay newspapers as well as television stations.
The Youth leaders discussed ways to rebuild the image of the wing, effective community development and service as well as how to woo 50,000 youths into the party before the year-end.

MIC Youth to recruit 50,000 members

Source:The Star
1st August 2008

KUALA LUMPUR: The MIC Youth is intact and is on course to recruit 50,000 new members before next June, its newly-appointed coordinator T. Mohan said here.
He said more than 10,000 youths have already indicated their willingness and would join after the process of branch formations was streamlined.
Speaking to reporters here yesterday, Mohan said the wing formulated strategies and programmes during a two-day brainstorming session in Cameron Highlands last week, which would be implemented by the states soon.
Mohan said that there would be a similar number of bureaus at the national and state levels to ensure uniformity. He added that state Youth leaders would be required to concentrate on their states.
“This was necessary to ensure that the Youth chiefs were not burdened with heavy responsibilities. Previously, most of the bureaus did not function as the chairmen had to handle the states as well,” he said.
Mohan was appointed MIC Youth coordinator on June 30 to replace S.A. Vigneswaran, who resigned as the movement's leader.
Mohan said that newcomer C. Shivarraaj had been appointed as secretary while assistant secretary R. Vegadasalam and treasurer S. Ganesan had been retained.
T.M. Selvam had been appointed as the new information chief. The other bureau appointments include V. Mugilan (politics and intelligence), S. Subramaniam (social and welfare) and G. Kumar (membership).

UMNO wants Tapah seat from MIC

Tapah MP

Tapah Umno wants the Tapah parliamentary seat to be returned to Umno to prevent it from falling into Opposition hands in the next election.
Its chief, Datuk Samsudin Abu Hassan, said the Barisan Nasional stronghold had been given to component parties for five terms since 1981 but was now in danger of going to the Opposition. “We are not making threats or giving a warning but this is what the grassroots want,” he told reporters after opening the Tapah Umno’s branch, Wanita, Youth and Puteri meetings here yesterday. He said this when asked to comment on a motion on the matter, which received the support of all 83 branches at the meeting.
In the March 8 general election, the MIC’s Datuk M. Saravanan won the seat by a 3,200-vote against Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s Tan Seng Toh.

Hmmm... so Tapah UMNO saying that only UMNO could prevent it from fall in to opposition's hand ? Tapah UMNO should be taught of the 'BN spirit' as it has been always stressed by the UMNO & BN top leaders. If all the UMNO leaders want their division to be filled up by their candidates, then they should dissolve BN and stand alone as UMNO party in coming general election. Let see, how many seats they can win againts Pakatan Rakyat....

PAS - UMNO Talks

Prime Minister Abullah Ahmad Badawi had this week accepted a proposal from PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang for Umno and PAS to hold discussions on issues concerning the Malays and Islam.

Reaction From Few MPs :

Azmin Ali, PKR vice-president :
''.....May be in my personal capacity as an MP, I have no objections."

Khalid Samad (PAS-Shah Alam):
"......to show an open attitude towards Umno members and having this meeting with the Umno leadership will show that there is no animosity or personal vindictiveness."

Zuraidah Kamaruddin (PKR-Ampang) :
"We got justification from Abdul Hadi Awang that it is in the spirit of Malay unity. It is okay to share this feeling ..."

Shahrir Samad, Umno supreme council member :
"..... (PAS) are representing Malay-majority states like Kedah and Kelatan. We are talking about problems of poverty and development especially directed to the poor and the lower income group. It is a good sign to move out from the 'election' mode"

Kenyataan Terbaru PAS

Poll by MalaysiaKini

MalaysiaKini reported that 5,109 readers participated in the one day poll. As usual the results is not in favour of Party and President. There were many conclusion abt tht poll.
My point of view, look at question number 2. Why majority of the readers want 'Quit BN and join Pakatan' ,'Continue as is','Be Multiracial Party'? So the 73.2% readers somehow still want MIC, isn't it ?

This is the result for question no.2 by favourites :
42.5% - Quit BN and join Pakatan
19.5% - Continue as it is
11.2% - Be Multiracial Party

23.5% - Dissolve Itself
3.3% - Dont know

By analysing question no.2 and no.4. Most of the readers who participated were from Pakatan ? Oh yea, for kind information, we are talking about party, when talking about party it is the delegate who going to decide about the party.....

"Press irked by PKR security volunteers"
Headline in Malaysiakini. Shocked to read this. Those days PKR used to object to any behaviour like this. But now....... errr.......

"Former MIC Youth leaders sue party"

As stated in TheStar ...
'Two former MIC Youth leaders, who were asked to step down from their posts for being over 41, have filed a suit against the party to challenge the directive."

The two former MIC Youth leaders : 1) Raja Kumar 2) Siva Subramaniam

Are they fighting for the party that lost in election or fighting for the positions that they lost ?
Are they loyal to party or loyal to positions tht they hold bfore ?

During formation of MIC in the 1940's, they didnt take place in rulling government. No minister, no dep.minister, no special privilage, nothing. The party members solely dedicated to the aim and objectives of MIC. Never faught for positions. Wht happen to the new generation in the party now ? No position No Serve ?
Maybe few feel that they are doing all these to bring down the MIC party's image and the President. But REMEMBER, other races are watching too. They will look down at Indians as long there is no UNITY among us. The term Indians referring to all political party whether it is rulling party or opposition, ngo, etc in our country where there are bunch of Indians in it. As long there is a split... no point of talking about unity among Indians.
Dear Indian Brothers out there... please stop damaging the party and community, positions wont last long, forget the past... look ahead... get united... be One Super Power...

A Grand National Youth AGM 2008

We should proud to say this ' A Grand national Youth AGM 2008'. Since the years that we have been attending AGMs, for the first time in the no-election year, we are seeing such a big crowd which is not less than 1,000 (more than 90% were delegates). The crowd :-
1) After political tsunami
2) During internal conflict
3) Without Brigades
T.Mohan's speech was just nice, straight forward, tri-lingual. Getting applause... and getting applause...
Delegates were contributing a lot of positive ideas towards the development of the party especially the youth movement.
MIC Youth and Putera MIC will joint hand and work togather from now and onwards.
RM25,000 (approx) collected as a donation for the daughter of Mr.Latcha Prabhu(div.youth leader) of Kedah.
Resolutions were well delivered by S.Murugesan.
Meeting was chaired and controlled by S.Ramis.

'Re-Energised and Youthful'

I read a bernama news where Datuk Seri S.Samy Vellu said...
' ....... the "re-energised and more youthful" wing of the MIC would chart a new strategy to woo more youngsters to join the party.
The term that has been used is certaintly defining the new management team. Whether wanna beleive or not, youth from divisional level and outsiders are welcoming the changes that had happened. Instead of looking at the perspective of loosing few experienced youth leaders, why not look at the new signs that we are getting from the grassroot level ? We must adopt to the re-branding exercise process. Remember that we are here for the party, and the party is for the community. We shall come to a stage and level of the mentality whereby an ordinary member of party should able to serve the community even not holding any higher position in the party. That is so called , social-entrepreneur.
I believe the new team is a vacsine for the illness of our movement. The team of :
T.Mohan, S.Murugesan, S.Ramis, Datuk Edmund Santhara (Masterskill), Datuk Shan (Shan & Co.), Ex-Council Members, Ex-Bureau Chairmans, new talented youth and professionals line up
are certaintly 'Re-Energised and More Youthful' and will bring a new era for the MIC Youth.
